Vicenza and Palladio

Many people were quite skeptics when Gian Giorgio Trissino, a 16th-century poet and playwright, decided to provide Andrea di Pietro della Gondola, an architect, with a humanistic education. Why a specialized technician should possess a humanistic background? For what purpose? This is an easy answer: the poet saw something that others couldn’t even imagine. The sensibility and the grace that he could find in those texts brought the young technician to develop an architectural revolution that shocked the whole Europe for its features, gathering positive reviews in many countries. As one of the angel of its own poem “L’Italia liberata dai Goti”, G. G. Trissino then renamed the architect as Andrea Palladio; this will be the signature of many of the most important architectural works that it is possible to find in Veneto, most of them in Vicenza. Vicenza will be the theatre of our tour. We’ll bring you to see some of the most iconic Palladio’s creations as the Basilica, the Teatro Olimpico, and the Villa la “Rotonda”, without forgetting the contact with the local social tissue and its products, as a Slow Tour travel should always be.
